Albert Herman Kath Jr.

Albert Herman Kath Jr. , 87, of Janesville passed away Saturday, July 23, 2011. Albert was born in Janesville on May 9, 1924, the son of Albert and Emma (Weakworth) Kath Sr. He graduated from Janesville High School. He married RuthJean Nehls in March of 1943 while serving his country in the U.S. Army. He served in the European Theater where he was captured during the Battle of the Bulge and was a prisoner of war for several months. For his service to his country, he was awarded numerous metals including the Purple Heart. Albert was employed by General Motors where he was very active in the union, as a committeeperson for several years and as vice-president of Local # 121, currently Local # 95. He was the former state commander for the Southern Chapter of Ex-Prisoners of War, a life member of Kienow-Hilt V.F.W. # 1621, a member of Disabled American Veterans and a former Golden Glove boxer. A highlight of Albert’s life was being poster boy for the Vetsroll trip to Washington, DC with the World War II veterans in 2010. Albert was a long-time member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his three children, Valerie Kath, Albert H. Kath III and Richard (Brenda) Kath all of Janesville, seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and a very special person, Cheryl Lornson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, RuthJean, who passed away on May 23, 2009, a grandson, Bobby, a granddaughter, Jodi Lynn and nine brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at Henke-Clarson Funeral Home, 1010 N. Wright Rd., Janesville with Rev. James Hendrikson officiating. Burial will be in Milton Lawns Memorial Park with military rites by Kienow-Hilt V.F.W. Post # 1621. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. Wednesday until the time of services at Henke-Clarson Funeral Home . www.henkeclarson.com.
